6 DECEMBER 2019 Welcome Address | Outgoing SCC President It is my pleasure to welcome you to the SCC’s 73rd Annual Scientific Meeting and Technology Showcase. We continue to tackle diverse topics of importance to our industry, from the controversial role of pop culture in public perception with Timothy Caulfield’s Frontiers of Science Award Lecture, to a session covering recent advances in our understanding of the role that microbiome plays in skin health and disease. I am honored to present many well-deserved awards during the luncheon on Tuesday, and particularly proud to present the first Florence Wall Women in Cosmetic Chemistry Award, graciously sponsored by Rodan + Fields. I hope you will join us in celebration of our honorees. I would like to thank our dedicated national office staff who, once again, have been organizing and preparing for months to execute another top-notch event. I also extend thanks to the COSA committee under the direction of chair, Valerie George, for reviewing and selecting our speakers from the numerous submissions received. And a big thank you to all our sponsors for supporting the mission of The Society by giving us this opportunity to share our collective knowledge and continue the advancement of cosmetic science. I have been honored to serve as your president in 2019 and look forward to connecting with you at the meeting! Sincerely, Kelly A. Dobos Sun Chemical Corporation Welcome Address | Incoming SCC President Welcome to the 73rd Annual SCC Meeting and Technology Showcase! We are so excited for you to be a part of this outstanding event. Education is very important to us and this meeting is no exception to that. The Society strives to present the newest scientific technology to our membership. The Committee on Scientific Affairs has worked very hard to find and bring to you the researchers and companies developing the newest breakthroughs to keep our industry on the forefront of cosmetic science. Over the next two days, you will have the choice to listen to over 40 leading experts presenting on the hottest topics in our industry, including papers on CBD, Advanced Hair Science and Skin Microbiome. We are very excited to present this year’s Frontiers of Science lecturer, Timothy Caulfield, a Canadian Professor of Law at the University of Alberta in Calgary. He is famous for debunking myths, from detox diets to vaccines causing autism or going gluten free when you don’t need to. This should be a very interesting and entertaining presentation. Many thanks go to our volunteer Committee on Scientific Affairs for putting together this outstanding program. Our national office staff, Erica O’Grady, Colleen Daddino, Sam Neely, Latasha Archer and Kenisha Beaupierre, deserve many accolades for the monumental work that they do to organize and prepare for this annual meeting. I hope you find this meeting an inspiring and valuable contribution to your continuing education in the field of cosmetic science. I am honored to serve as your Vice president this past year and look forward to my continuing service in the coming year as your President. Sincerely, Mindy Goldstein, Ph.D. Mindy S.
