15 The 2018 Maison G. de Navarre Award, the Society’s highest honor, was presented to Anthony J. O’Lenick by 2018 SCC President, Perry Romanowski. Tony is currently the President of Siltech, a company that develops, manufactures and markets a full line of organo-functional silicone compounds and related specialties. Tony has authored more than 50 articles and 6 books and serves as a contributing author to the column in Household & Personal Care Today and in Cosmetics & Toiletries. He has served on the IFSCC Praesidium as the Education Chair and some of his SCC National activities include Area Director, Treasurer, Vice President and President. We are honored to present him with this award and look forward to all of his continued contributions to the industry! AWARDS The 2018 Merit Award was presented to Amy Wyatt. Our policy manual describes the award as recognizing a member of the Society for distinguished contributions, achievements and service to the Society on a National Level. Amy has a long record of service to the Society of Cosmetic Chemists. She has been an active SCC member since 1994 and has since served as an Area Director, Vice President, President and, until recently, represented the US Society as the President of the IFSCC. All this and more showcase her dedication to the Society and her spirit of volunteerism. The 2018 Henry Maso Keynote Lecture Award, sponsored by Siltech Corporation and the Maso Family, was presented to Michael McAlpine, Ph.D. for his presentation entitled, “3D Printing Electronics on the Skin”. Dr. McAlpine presented on the idea that the ability to three-dimensionally interweave biological and functional materials could enable the creation of devices possessing unique and compelling geometries, properties, and functionalities. This award recognizes an outstanding lecturer of the 72nd Annual Scientific Meeting specifically selected by the COSA Committee. The 2018 Frontiers of Science Lecture Award, sponsored by Cosmetics & Toiletries, was presented to Charles Spence, Ph.D. for his presentation entitled, “Neuroscience- Inspired Multisensory Design in the Cosmetics Sector”. Dr. Spence delivered an exciting presentation that stressed the importance of utilizing all 5 senses to sell personal care products. His talk touched on topics of Neuroscience and its relation to consumer perception and the sensory experience. This award recognizes a speaker who has achieved exceptional national or international stature in the scientific community and for delivering a lecture at the 72nd Annual Scientific Meeting.
16 The 2018 Allan B. Black Award, sponsored by the Presperse Corporation, was awarded to Arvind Shah, for his paper entitled “Learnings of Fundamental Properties of the Fine Powders in Cosmetics” which was presented before the membership at the Society’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This Award is given annually for the Best Paper on Make-Up Technology either presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. The 2018 Green Star Award, sponsored by Colonial Chemical, was presented to Chaz Hudak, Ph.D. for his green formulation, AVALON ORGANICS® Moisturizing Coconut Conditioner. The Award is given to the formulator who has done the most to accomplish green formulations during the past 12-month period. The 2018 Hans A. Schaeffer Award, sponsored by Lonza Personal Care, was presented to Jennifer Marsh, Ph.D. for her paper entitled, “Measuring Hair Damage & Strategies to Deliver Healthy Hair”, which was presented before the membership at the Society’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This award is given annually for the Most Innovative Paper presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting. The co-authors of this paper include Matthew Thompson, Timothy J Hawkins, Ph.D., Arto Määttä, Ph.D., and Haibo Jiang, Ph.D.
