31 Quebec 2018 has been a busy year with special and education events for the Quebec Chapter. Indeed, we organized different events more frequently to reach more people in our industry. During the last year, the Quebec Chapter was able to present very good conferences, including “how to identify customer needs” presented by Daniel Leblanc. In this conference, Mr. Leblanc presented methods and solutions to help businesses better understand the needs of their customers. The questions of a minimum viable product and issues of validation by the consumer were discussed as well as some tools and practical tips for identifying market opportunities. This presentation was broadcast via web camera to Quebec City, where people who were even 162 miles away from Montreal attended the conference. The second topic presented to the Quebec Membership was on the theme of “Sunscreens in the 21St Century” and was presented by Julian P. Hewitt. In this seminar held in March, the consumer trends in UV protection and the evolution of the industry regarding the UV filter were discussed. Part of this presentation also addressed the regulatory aspects of sunscreen products. This presentation was also broadcast to Quebec City. For our summer event, we chose to hold two conferences on entrepreneurship in Quebec. This event was held at the ITHQ of Montreal which was the perfect place to welcome Ms. Mariana Royer (President and CEO of ForeXtra Bio Laboratories) and Mr. Roger Southin (President at SoSen - Functionalab, Jouviance). Each one was kind enough to share their experiences on business creation in cosmetics. Their strategies for getting on the market, their challenges and their inspirations were shared with the 65 people who participated in this event. We also offered to our members an exceptional Education Day on the skin microbiome. During this day, we welcomed 4 experts from the field. Mr. Daniel Auriol, Ph. D in microbiology presented the state of the art and the methodology on microbiota. Mr. Herve Offredo addressed the question “why keeping a good balance of bacteria is desirable for our skin”. Mr. Philip Ludwing introduced an overview and opportunities to understand and modulate skin colonization. The day was concluded by a presentation from Ms. Sara Caballero on “Skin microbiome: applications in the cosmetic field”. This event was held in the national library of Montréal, ideal place for sharing knowledge. This year, we organized a fantastic Supplier’s Day. We had numerous scientific presentations and booths for suppliers. We had a record attendance for this event. Finally, we held our Christmas party at the gourmet restaurant L’Auberge Saint-Gabriel, in the heart of Old Montreal. This 300-year-old institution has inspired its owners Marc Bolay, Garou and Guy Laliberté to make it a premier dining destination, in a setting filled with playful winks about our past. Below, please enjoy some of the photos taken at our events.
