8 Florida 2018 was an exciting year for the Florida Chapter Society of Cosmetic Chemists! We held four-chapter meetings throughout the state, a free CEP Course, and sponsored two University students to attend Suppliers Day and Next Gen courses. Here’s a brief summary of our highlighted events! Our first Chapter Meeting to kick off the year was a technical presentation on ‘Skin Layer-Specific Delivery of Actives Using Double Encapsulation’ presented by Jereon van den Bosch of Ultra Chemical at Dave and Busters in Ft. Lauderdale. All our members walked away with a better understanding of encapsulation and its importance in delivering actives to the skin. We then moved on to our February meeting which was held in Tampa this time the topic was ‘A Novel Cationic Humectant with Proven Efficacy’ presented by Dennis Abbeduto of Colonial Chemical. In March we had a talk entitled ‘Super Hero Silicones for Water’ presented by Tania Viana of Grant Industries. We were also gearing up for Suppliers day where we sponsored two University Students. With the help of Marie Rinaldi as their guide, the students walked away with the experience of a lifetime. Next was our CEP Course which we offered for FREE to ALL Florida Chapter Members which was instructed by David Steinburg & Moe Lovelace. The course was about ‘International Regulatory Updates’ with very informative details on current and future regulations and also the HOT TOPIC, CBD in Cosmetics. We closed the year with our final Chapter Meeting in Orlando, FL at Andretti Indoor Karting & Games where Jim Mosbaugh of Copperhead Chemical Company gave a technical presentation on ‘Novel Preparation for Liquid Crystal Mixture of Plant Derived Water Soluble, Anticrobial Medium Chain Monoglycerides’.
