33 Southeast What a fabulous year 2018 was for the Southeast Chapter! We were able to host three very informative scientific meetings, have a fun filled supplier social and end with a stylish Officer installation meeting. Our first meeting of the year started in beautiful downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee at the St. John's Restaurant. Professor Douglas G. Hayes (Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, University of Tennessee) gave a current and well-received presentation on Preparing Manuscripts for Publication and Assessing the Quality of Manuscripts and Publications. In April, the “Bluff City” Memphis, Tennessee served as a perfect venue for our talk on “Requirements for New Raw Materials to be Used in the Cosmetic Industry”. Ms. Tanujakumari Ramasubramaniam (Tanuja), who serves in the capacity of Associate Regulatory Specialist at Revlon, gave a very enlightening presentation and our host facility “Char Restaurant” provided a delicious and satisfying meal. The month of June brought forth our inaugural Supplier Social Event, which this year was held at the splendid Fire Museum in Memphis, TN. Located in the heart of downtown Memphis, the FMOM is considered the premiere fire museum in the country, dedicated to documenting and promoting the local history of fire-fighting and educating the public in fire and life safety. Prior to our dinner and fun giveaways, the FMOM provided interactive exhibits as well as cool video documentation. September definitely did not disappoint, as we headed to the rolling hills of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. There, the fine establishment of Five Senses Restaurant, was gracious enough to close down operations to cater solely to our event. Paul Slavashevich, Symrise, presented a very enlightening talk titled “Modern Product Protection - Regulatory Landscape, Trends and Solutions”. It indeed sparked conversations that continue to this day. In November, the Southeast Chapter Officer Installation meeting was held in Memphis at Season’s 52 Restaurant, where the 2018 Chapter Officers were thanked for their year of service to the Southeast Chapter and the newly appointed Officers for 2019 were graciously welcomed. The evening was concluded in truly fine fashion as we were able to provide a true pillar in our chapter, John Wagner, with a special trophy of recognition for over 30 years’ service in the SCC. While John is officially retired, he will look to serve as special assistant going forward. Let’s see if we can top this in 2019!!!! We look forward to trying!
34 Southwest 2018 was an exciting year with several mile stone events. From our 7 regular Chapter Meetings: Our Meet & Greet Mixer at Whiskey Cake in January was a tremendous success and we learned about the sci- ence behind whiskey! February was a very enlightening presentation on Target Delivery Systems held at Arthur’s. A Crash Course in Preservatives was our March topic giv- en by our Speaker of the Year, Chris Johnson from Kine- tik. April’s topic was Mega Trends to help the cosmetic chem- ist stay ahead of the curve on new concepts. Our May topic was a timely discussion of Anti-Pollution and its role in cosmetics. October was a first for the SWSCC as the meeting was held in HOUSTON and was very well attended. We will continue to have at least one meeting there per year! Our CEP course was held in November and we were treated to all you ever wanted to know about Polymers in Cosmetics and more! Our special events included: April Golf Outing our most successful Golf event ever, held at Cowboy’s Golf Club. Beautiful day at a legendary course made even more pleasant by the generous dona- tions of our dedicated sponsors. Good day even if you aren’t a pro golfer! Jeff Barcafar, Mary Miller and Alison Nally are your committee members for the Golf Outings. July’s Fun Event was a Murder Mystery Of Sound Mind and Dead Body. The audience was challenged to deter- mine the “who done it” ….. 2018 was the year for our SWSCC Suppliers’ Day event at the Irving Convention Center. Record number of booths with new and more attendee friendly layout, new after show party (with armadillo racing) and a record amount of donations all contributed to our semi-annual event. Make sure to thank your committee of Mary Miller, Mau- ricio Castro and Alison Nally (Co-Chairs) and Melissa Mata, Vallerie Deleon, Terry Easley, Joy Roederer, Andra Corder for a HUGE job well done. And to finish the year, the most popular event in the en- tire SCC (in my opinion anyway) The SWSCC Dinner / Dance. The theme this year was “Gatsby Style” held at the Hilton Granite Park. Theme related decorations, giveaways, entertainment, casino, dancing, music all resulted in a most enjoyable evening and having a “roar- ing good time”! We always collect unwrapped toys to be donated to the Children’s Medical Center for their Hol- iday Party truly a worthy cause thanks to Emultec for getting the toys to the hospital. Your committee was Daniel Ramirez (Chair), Terry Easley, Andra Corder and Alison Nally We are already hard at work for our 2019 events make sure to come join us!
