Black Award, sponsored by the Presperse Corporation, was awarded to Arvind Shah, for his paper entitled “Learnings of Fundamental Properties of the Fine Powders in Cosmetics” which was presented before the membership at the Society’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This Award is given annually for the Best Paper on Make-Up Technology either presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. The 2018 Green Star Award, sponsored by Colonial Chemical, was presented to Chaz Hudak, Ph.D. for his green formulation, AVALON ORGANICS® Moisturizing Coconut Conditioner. The Award is given to the formulator who has done the most to accomplish green formulations during the past 12-month period. The 2018 Hans A. Schaeffer Award, sponsored by Lonza Personal Care, was presented to Jennifer Marsh, Ph.D. for her paper entitled, “Measuring Hair Damage & Strategies to Deliver Healthy Hair”, which was presented before the membership at the Society’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This award is given annually for the Most Innovative Paper presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting. The co-authors of this paper include Matthew Thompson, Timothy J Hawkins, Ph.D., Arto Määttä, Ph.D., and Haibo Jiang, Ph.D.

17 The 2018 Des Goddard Award, sponsored by INOLEX, was presented to Xin Qu, Ph.D. for his Journal Article entitled, “The Rheological and Skin Sensory Properties of Cosmetic Emulsions: Influence of Thickening Agents”, published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science Vol. 69 No. 1. This award is given annually for the the Most Innovative Paper on the topic of Polymer Science related to Cosmetics or Personal Care, presented at the previous Annual Scientific Meeting or published in the Journal of Cosmetic Science. The co-authors of this paper include Yanan Li, Zhaoqing Zhou, Xiaomin Zhao, and Hua Zhao. The 2018 Shaw Mudge Award, was awarded to Estelle Loing, Ph.D. for her paper entitled “Innovative Hair Care Biomimetic Peptide: A Promising Solution to Fight Gray Hair” which was presented at the 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This award is given for the best paper presented at the preceding Annual Scientific Meeting. The co-authors of this paper include Joan Attia, Ph.D., Magali Borel, Joanna Wdzieczak-Bakala, Ph.D., Stephanie Scalvino, Ph.D., Elian Lati, Ph.D., Laurence Michel, Ph.D., Jean-Christophe Choulot, Ph.D., and Michel Hocquaux, Ph.D. The 2018 Society of Cosmetic Chemists Award, sponsored by The Hallstar Company, was awarded to Ratan Chaudhuri, Ph.D., for his paper entitled “Delayed DNA Damage – How Significant is this Pathway for Skin Damage?” which was presented before the membership at the Society’s 2017 Annual Scientific Meeting. This award is given annually for the Best Paper that makes the greatest scientific contribution to knowledge in the field of protecting against or ameliorating damage to human skin caused by exposure to UV radiation presented at the Society’s previous Annual Meeting. The co-authors of this paper include Krys Bojanowski, Ph. D., and Parvesh Singh, Ph. D.
