33 Southeast What a fabulous year 2018 was for the Southeast Chapter! We were able to host three very informative scientific meetings, have a fun filled supplier social and end with a stylish Officer installation meeting. Our first meeting of the year started in beautiful downtown Chattanooga, Tennessee at the St. John's Restaurant. Professor Douglas G. Hayes (Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science, University of Tennessee) gave a current and well-received presentation on Preparing Manuscripts for Publication and Assessing the Quality of Manuscripts and Publications. In April, the “Bluff City” Memphis, Tennessee served as a perfect venue for our talk on “Requirements for New Raw Materials to be Used in the Cosmetic Industry”. Ms. Tanujakumari Ramasubramaniam (Tanuja), who serves in the capacity of Associate Regulatory Specialist at Revlon, gave a very enlightening presentation and our host facility “Char Restaurant” provided a delicious and satisfying meal. The month of June brought forth our inaugural Supplier Social Event, which this year was held at the splendid Fire Museum in Memphis, TN. Located in the heart of downtown Memphis, the FMOM is considered the premiere fire museum in the country, dedicated to documenting and promoting the local history of fire-fighting and educating the public in fire and life safety. Prior to our dinner and fun giveaways, the FMOM provided interactive exhibits as well as cool video documentation. September definitely did not disappoint, as we headed to the rolling hills of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. There, the fine establishment of Five Senses Restaurant, was gracious enough to close down operations to cater solely to our event. Paul Slavashevich, Symrise, presented a very enlightening talk titled “Modern Product Protection - Regulatory Landscape, Trends and Solutions”. It indeed sparked conversations that continue to this day. In November, the Southeast Chapter Officer Installation meeting was held in Memphis at Season’s 52 Restaurant, where the 2018 Chapter Officers were thanked for their year of service to the Southeast Chapter and the newly appointed Officers for 2019 were graciously welcomed. The evening was concluded in truly fine fashion as we were able to provide a true pillar in our chapter, John Wagner, with a special trophy of recognition for over 30 years’ service in the SCC. While John is officially retired, he will look to serve as special assistant going forward. Let’s see if we can top this in 2019!!!! We look forward to trying!
