15 We are grateful to have a dedicated team of board members serving our chapter. It’s never easy balancing work and volunteering, but service to SCC and our members bring many benefits and personal satisfaction. We had an amazing year thanks to the hard work of our dedicated volunteers! I am hopeful that next year will be the year where we begin transitioning back to full normal. While virtual meetings may continue in 2022, we are hopeful to see more chapter meetings in person. Midwest 2021 marked a year for hope to return to our beloved in person meetings however, with the continuation of the pandemic we adapted utilizing new methodology and strategies. Our virtual cocktail hour fulfilled our desire for socialization after the insightful education talks. We employed virtual streams for the majority of our meetings with exception to our first ever June fishing event and our iconic November Emeritus meeting at Café La Cave. June: While tensions relaxed and recommendations eased from the CDC, we had a fun outdoor outing out at a local pond where we held a fishing competition (of course the Chair-Elect’s son beat all of us). We played bags, badminton, and fished. These fun activities were a great way to reconnect with everyone, as it had been a very long time. A food truck served delicious treats that everyone enjoyed. October: We missed out on our winter board meeting at the beginning of the year so we aimed for a fall board meeting in place of our canceled Technical Symposium that was supposed to be a welcoming dinner for students and speakers. The Midwest knows how to adapt and have a good time. November: Luckily, we were able to have our traditional end of the year meeting where we honor our Emeritus members and install the new board members. It was wonderful that we all had an opportunity to connect in person one last time before the end of the year. New England
16 It has been a pleasure to serve on the NESCC Board the past two years! It has been a year of many changes with the pandemic continuing into 2021. We had our first meeting of the year in March with BASF talking about: “Trends in Textured Hair and New Method Development”. This excellent talk was presented by Andrew Miller, Marketing Manager, Hair, Body and Oral Care, North America and Mythili Nori, Senior Scientist, Performance and Claims, both of BASF. Our next meeting was May 26th. Dr. Pascal Yvon, PharmD, MBA who is Head of Botanicals at Personal Care Croda, Inc. discussed “Healthy Scalp for Healthy Hair” Our September Meeting was by Evonik Silicas. Christina Sotelo presented on the topic of “Turning Water into Powder”. October 6th brought our only in-person event this year! It was a new venue and a huge success! Our first golf outing at Blissful Meadows Golf Club in Uxbridge, MA. It was a beautiful Fall day! Everyone was so happy to attend, and it was our most successful golf outing on record! Lastly, we finished up the year with a great Trends Presentation by Sun Chemical. Betty Aucar and Genevieve Lee spoke about “Intuitive Nature: Color and Beauty Trends for 2023.” I want to thank all our speakers in 2021. We appreciate your assistance in doing these webinars. I am so lucky to work with such a great volunteer board, Beth McGowan has been our Treasurer for “forever” it seems. We couldn’t make this work without Beth. Kathy Rainone, our Secretary has been there for us and helps to get the speakers set-up. Nicole Panko has helped us so much with setting up our meeting virtually, these would not have been possible without Nicole. I want to extend my well wishes to the new NESCC Board for 2022! Kaylee Miller, Chair, Nicole Panko as Chair-Elect, Kathleen Rainone as Secretary and of course Beth McGowan as Treasurer. Congratulations Ladies! The NESCC would not exist without your help! We are looking forward to a bright and happy 2022! Joy, Chair NESCC New York 2021 began with the pandemic still dictating both professional and personal plans. The Chapter realized we needed to remain flexible and agile in order to best serve our members and the global cosmetic chemistry community which had been participating in our
