37 • Jon Werner (Aptar Beauty and Home): “Overview of Aptar Product Lines” • Stuart Keating (Earthbound Beer): “Fun Things with Brewing!” • Chris Daraska (Croda Personal Care): “USDA Biobased Materials” Mid-day lunch was a great way to socialize and catch up with everyone. The speakers dispersed amongst the attendees and provided additional insight into their areas of expertise at lunch. It is a chapter tradition to have one talk that is fun right after lunch. Stuart Keating (Earthbound Beer) was humorous and discussed chemical aspects of the beer brewing process. The Board felt that each of our chapter members left with knowledge and expanded their networking contacts. The Renaissance Hotel made their ballroom available to us which was very spacious and roomy. The location of the hotel was just off of I-70, highly visible, food was good and the staff easy to work with the arrangements. This also made it very easy for the Kansas City and out of state attendees to find. The hotel rates were very reasonable for those that opted to stay the night. We are going to use this facility again for the 2022 symposium. Installation of Officers/Holiday Party – The Thursday before Thanksgiving kicks off the holiday season as we have always held our Installation of Officers/Holiday party. This year it was held at the Bar 360 Rooftop Bar, in the downtown St. Louis Hilton Hotel on Thursday, November 18th, 6:00 – 9:00 pm. The views from this rooftop are spectacular! To facilitate socializing, we opted for appetizers and not a formal sit-down dinner. There is open air gathering centers outside with heaters allowed for taking in the views of downtown St. Louis. Gift card donations from our sponsors were plentiful and allowed for each attendee to have two gift cards. The installation of officers was completed with participation from National Chapter Officers. The 2022 officers for the St. Louis SCC Chapter are as follows: Chapter Chair: Denisha Patel Chapter Chair Elect: Alex Breckwoldt Treasurer: Ashley McKinney Treasurer-Elect: Alex Johnson Secretary: Dale R. Sanson, Ph.D.
38 Twin Cities Although we hoped 2021 would be a bit different, the Twin Cities SCC still had a successful and engaging 2021! TCCSCC worked very hard this year to respond to the continuing ever-changing landscape of COVID-19 and pivoted to keep our members engaged and involved. The first endeavor of 2021 was the introduction of our monthly webcast called TCCSCCast. Since we were still unable to meet in person, TCCSCCast was a monthly pre-recorded webcast with educational content available for download. To allow for member connection and engagement, the release of TCCSCCast was followed by a monthly live Zoom meeting with a Q&A session with the presenter. In March, we published our first TCCSCCast. Emul-fun Theory presented by Nickolas Huss, Vice President of Sales at Barnet Products Corp, was an interactive presentation that reviewed many different types of emulsions found in the fun world of cosmetic emulsions such as phospholipid emulsions and pickering emulsions. April’s TCCSCCast focused on the importance of a healthy scalp! In his lecture entitled Healthy Scalp for Healthy Hair, Pascal Yvon, Head of Botanicals for Personal Care- Croda, reviewed scalp biology and potential scalp skin conditions while addressing formulation strategies to maintain a healthy scalp. Our last TCCSCCast of the year was Trends and Innovations in Cosmetic Preservation presented by Christopher Johnson, Commercial Director Consumer Goods - Omya Kinetik. This webinar reviewed the past of traditional preservation, the present challenges faced by cosmetic chemists, including the ongoing demand for less controversial preservative options, and concluded with innovative, multifunctional ingredients for cosmetic preservation. All the webcasts received many downloads and views and were followed by informative Zoom meetings where the presenters answered many interesting questions and explained further some of the concepts of the lecture. We thank all our presenters and supporters of the TCCSCCast. After the summer, we were very fortunate to hold our first in-person event for our TCCSCC Annual Poster Session Event at TopGolf Minneapolis! With one hour of speed poster presentations, followed by 2 hours of TopGolf, it was a perfect way to reconnect with colleagues and friends in person while learning about the newest ingredients and technologies from suppliers. We thank all the companies that participated in this successful event! Although we were unable to have our holiday party in 2021, we are very excited to keep the momentum and keep reconnecting through in-person events in
