23 With sponsorship from many different companies, we were able to have six bays full of people getting to know one another and enjoying golf whether they were a PGA pro or hitting a golf ball for the first time. Top Golf set us up in a room with several tables where we enjoyed a wonderful fiesta themed dinner and plenty of hors d’oeuvres. At the end of the event, we had a raffle for many different prizes including themed baskets, gift cards, and more. Student Night – featuring Dr. Gabriella Baki, Kelly Dobos, and Mark Chandler Our annual student night featured industry professionals and students from University of Cincinnati and University of Toledo enrolled in Cosmetic Science programs. For the meeting, we were able to welcome two speakers: Dr. Gabriella Baki from the University of Toledo and Kelly Dobos, our incoming chair elect. Dr. Gabriella Baki’s presentation discussed the important role that suppliers play in the creation of new products and educated the students and professionals alike on how they can assist and benefit one another. The presentation given by Kelly Dobos also educated both the industry professionals and students in attendance on how to properly give a presentation, pointing out everything from how to dress, speak, and put together a deck of slides. The information given by the two speakers was invaluable and helped us tremendously with providing education for all who attended. To stay clean, our Student Night also had a formulation segment where everyone, by the guidance of Dr. Baki, was able to formulate a foaming hand soap. Everyone was able to put their personal touch on the product by choosing their own color and fragrance.
24 Additionally, we recognized and installed our past year’s OVSCC board and install our incoming officers. Present to install the officers was Mark Chandler, the incoming Vice President Elect. Along with the installation, Mark gave an encouraging speech to the students on being involved with the SCC throughout their careers. Closing Remarks Thank you to all our board and committee members. With your commitment and strong work ethic, this upcoming year will be just as good as the last! Looking back on 2021, our goal was to bring new, innovative topics and keeping our members engaged- we didn’t disappoint. OVSCC looks forward to 2022, continuing educating our members, build networks, and grow the industry of cosmetic chemistry. 75th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase: The Society’s first ever HYBRID conference. SCC members and other cosmetic science industry stakeholders traveled to NYC to show their support for the Society's first in-person conference since 2019. This event was arguably one of the most important annual meetings for the Society as it affirmed, with confidence, that the SCC has the capacity to host events with health and safety protocols at the forefront. The Society planned for a much smaller meeting than in typical years. Anticipating 500 total attendees for the hybrid meeting, we had 483 registrations in total with nearly 400 attendees on-site. We were delighted to see such significant support from companies who sent groups to this year's event. Over 180 unique companies were in attendance at the Sheraton New York Times Square, and 44 exhibitors showcased their latest innovations to solve industry wide issues. Most noteworthy are the number of international participants from 10+ countries (including France, Germany, Spain, and Sweden), who were able to attend the event despite numerous corporate and governmental travel restrictions. And while the current climate did not allow all of the SCC75 registrants to travel to NYC, there was an opportunity to participate virtually. The 2021 Annual Meeting was the first SCC national conference to offer a hybrid attendance option, with 66 participating in real-time. All Full Access Registrants, as well as Live Stream Access Registrants were able to watch the presentations in real-time, online. And for those with time zone challenges, on-demand recordings were made available within 24 hours.
