22 BB Riverboats Alison Griffin To bring along some more excitement and show off the city of Cincinnati, we hosted our second in person meeting on the Ohio River on the BB Riverboats. We were lucky again to have a clear, warm, beautiful night in September in Cincinnati. The meeting and dinner were held indoors on the boat, but after the meeting attendees were able to meander throughout the boat, taking in the beautiful views of the Cincinnati skyline, dance on the rooftop of the boat, and have a great opportunity to network. Decoding the crystal ball a discussion about color trends: where they come from and how they translate for cosmetics, fashion, home, and décor. We learned about historical color influences, impact from celebrities and media, the Pantone color of the year, and various marketing companies that influence the colors in fashion each year. The education on color helped the audience to realize how impactful colors truly are, what trends have been popular, as well as upcoming trends. In alignment with this past year, we ran across some technical difficulties with our presentation equipment having every single cord to connect a projector to a computer except for the only one we needed. Working together, the Ohio Valley Board members Cassandra Patterson and Kendra Cutcher came up with the idea of the presenter to share their screen via zoom and all the attendees logged into zoom over their phones having the presentation in their hands. The leadership and cooperation between the members, board, and the speaker was a true definition of working together to solve a problem. Top Golf Event Golf Outing From the surveys sent to our membership, we were finding some interest in a golf outing, but not quite enough to host an entire day of golf. Seeing what other chapters were planning, we decided to, yet again, shift out of our normal event and host an evening at Top Golf. Put on by our Golf Outing chair, Kelly Kanellis, the Ohio Valley Chapter found great success in this event with a large gathering of suppliers, chemists, and students.
23 With sponsorship from many different companies, we were able to have six bays full of people getting to know one another and enjoying golf whether they were a PGA pro or hitting a golf ball for the first time. Top Golf set us up in a room with several tables where we enjoyed a wonderful fiesta themed dinner and plenty of hors d’oeuvres. At the end of the event, we had a raffle for many different prizes including themed baskets, gift cards, and more. Student Night featuring Dr. Gabriella Baki, Kelly Dobos, and Mark Chandler Our annual student night featured industry professionals and students from University of Cincinnati and University of Toledo enrolled in Cosmetic Science programs. For the meeting, we were able to welcome two speakers: Dr. Gabriella Baki from the University of Toledo and Kelly Dobos, our incoming chair elect. Dr. Gabriella Baki’s presentation discussed the important role that suppliers play in the creation of new products and educated the students and professionals alike on how they can assist and benefit one another. The presentation given by Kelly Dobos also educated both the industry professionals and students in attendance on how to properly give a presentation, pointing out everything from how to dress, speak, and put together a deck of slides. The information given by the two speakers was invaluable and helped us tremendously with providing education for all who attended. To stay clean, our Student Night also had a formulation segment where everyone, by the guidance of Dr. Baki, was able to formulate a foaming hand soap. Everyone was able to put their personal touch on the product by choosing their own color and fragrance.
