11 During 2019, the Michigan Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists hosted two unique chapter meetings, a chapter meeting with golf outing, as well as a full day CEP course with social event. We had an amazing year thanks to all the hard work of our wonderful volunteers! This year we learned about all the different aspects of the cosmetics and personal care industry. In March, we recognized National Women’s Day with our meeting at Soaring Eagle Casino featuring female speakers. We had a great time learning about blue light and its impact on the skin and the cosmetics industry as well as what it takes to keep the pulse on cosmetics R&D. At our May meeting we looked at all the fuss of CBD in the cosmetics and personal care industry. We dove into the technology of CBD, Cannabis and Hemp and its uses. We also took a deep dive into the trends about CBD to determine whether it’s worth the hype. In September we learned about fermented beauty ingredients and the perception of skin brightness followed by a nine-hole golf scramble. A social event kicked off our November meeting, the night before at the Vander Mill Grand Rapids Cidery. The next day we hosted Wen Schroeder and the CEP course, Sustainable Cosmetic Product Development: Market, Regulation, & Product Development. During the course we conducted our 2020 officer installation as well as continued our Toys for Tots campaign. The Best Speaker Award from the Michigan Chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists for 2019 went to Alison Gather, Beauty Report Analyst from Mintel. Her presentation was titled “CBD, Cannabis, and Hemp Beauty Worth the Hype?” The Michigan Chapter wants to say thank you to Alison and congratulations! We were very proud to continue our support of the National SCC in 2019 by sponsoring toss able microphones at the SCC Annual Meeting in New York City. We hope you had fun using them! We are entering 2020 with goals to continue improving the professionalism and education in our industry, promote and set high standards for research, strengthen our own education through the sharing of science, grow our professional network, provide the public confidence in the science behind consumer products, and ultimately advance cosmetic science! From all of us in the Michigan Chapter, best wishes for a wonderful New Year! Michigan
