1 CHAPTER ACTIVITY NEWSLETTER 2020 was a time like no other in our lives. There’s no doubt that the pandemic brought many unforeseen personal and professional challenges. But it also brought out the best in our members, individually and collectively. SCC member companies responded to much‐ needed relief efforts both home and abroad. From changing manufacturing operations to produce hand sanitizer and making monetary grants or gifts‐in‐kind, to donating hygiene products and PPE, this industry stepped up like no other to help those in need. Many of our Chapters and individual members did the same. I know that our founder would be very proud of the Society members’ response to this global crisis. Through all this, our Chapters have focused on managing change, addressing challenges, and capitalizing on opportunities to continue to deliver on our promise to our members: providing the education, networking, and resources you need to help members do their jobs better. Members could avail themselves of dozens of free live webinars at both the National and Chapter level access 100+ free and/or discounted annual meeting and webinar recordings via the new SCC Media Library & Resource Center and engage with one another during virtual happy hours and events to webinars and multi‐day education sessions. Our Chapters continue to be the lifeline for our members’ experiences. I applaud our outstanding local leaders for their ability to quickly adapt and deliver value to our members in this ever‐shifting environment examples of which you’ll see in this newsletter. At HQ, we spent this year focusing on delivering value to the Chapters and creating resources to make being a chapter leader easier and more rewarding by offering updated resources, training, and education all of which were a result of our chapter needs assessment survey identifying what services our chapters want and need most. I’m proud of the Society’s response to social injustices, including developing and publicizing our initiatives to address diversity, equity and inclusion within the industry. Just a few of these initiatives include development of the Madam CJ Walker Scholarship, discussions with historically black colleges/universities to develop cosmetic science programs and ensuring a leadership team representative of our diverse membership. For 2021, the SCC is future‐focused. Our members and chapters will continue to see additional improvements and value across the board, from continued virtual and on-demand education to an improved online experience via our new website coming this Summer. None of this would be possible without the collaboration of the hard‐working HQ team and our dedicated Officers and Board of Directors who have worked tirelessly during the past year to support our members and Chapters. And finally, I wish to thank each of you our Chapters and volunteers! Our success is attributed to your hard work and dedication to our members throughout this particularly challenging year. Wishing you all a healthy 2021, and I look forward to in-person events returning this year where we can safely enjoy the camaraderie and education that are the hallmarks of the SCC experience!
