This was a collaborative effort with our sister chapter, the LISCC. This was shortly followed by The Black Lives Matter Campaign which launched July 4th. The goal of NYSCC is to expand upon the message and turn it into action. This is already happening through our EDUCATION INITIATIVES. NYSCC SUPPLIERS’ DAY 2020 As with all things in 2020, NYSCC SUPPLIERS’ DAY was reinvented to fit the current environment. Capitalizing on Giorgino Macalino’s vision for the event, the Suppliers Day “Week of Beauty” was featured as part of the AT HOME LIVE SERIES. Working closely with the NYSCC Board, the 2020 Virtual Event was managed by ECMA Show Management: Jane McDermott, Erin Layton and Team: including Annie Scully, Press/Communicatons, Elizabeth Zoller, Conference/Webinar Management Steve Gross, Webinar/Technical Support. Critical to the success of the event is key support from the NYSCC Committees, including: Giorgio Dell’Acqua Scientific Advisory Committee John Carola, Future Chemists Workshop Yana Melnkkova, Mentorship Cathy Piterski, Communications, and Maria Sousa, Social, to name a few. Highlights of NYSCC Suppliers’ Day At Home Live Week of Beauty included: A Virtual Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 9:00 am ET, to officially launch the core programs of Suppliers’ Day At Home Live Week of Beauty. NYSCC Chairman, Giorgino Macalino and fellow board and committee members convened outside the Javits Center to highlight the achievements and new initiatives that the NYSCC undertook this year and give a preview of what to expect at this year’s Supplier’s Day. The CEW Supplier’s Award: Ingredients & Formulation Finalists Panel took place on Sept. 30th at 11:00 a.m. ET. Moderated by Andrea Nagel, VP of Content for CEW’s Beauty News, the six finalists discussed the novel attributes and technologies that made their product stand out to judges from top brands. The PCPC presented a live panel on SAFETY, REGULATORY HOT TOPICS on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 1:00 pm ET. Scientific and regulatory experts from PCPC discussed recent changes that could significantly impact the formulation and sale of cosmetics and personal care products in the U.S. Awards Presentation and Virtual Cocktail Hour, on Wednesday, Sept. 30th at 4:00 pm, ET, where the winner of the prestigious CEW Beauty Award for Ingredients & Formulation was announced. The winner of the 2020 Award was Ashland Chemical for Mineral-based Sun Stick SPF 50.
16 INDIE 360 live panel discussion on Thursday, Oct. 1st at 10:00 am ET, was moderated by Deanna Utroske, Editor, Cosmetic Design, and focused on the independent beauty movement. Panelists representing every aspect of what is needed to bring a brand to life shared their expertise on ingredients, lab and formulations, accelerator programs, as well as packaging/delivery systems that are sustainable. The World of Chemistry presented by NYSCC and IFSCC featured guest speaker Dr. Kazutami Sakamoto on “Tips to Improve Emulsion Stability,” Thursday, Oct. 1 at 11:00 am ET and moderated by Richard Scott, Editor, Personal Care Magazine. On demand content on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 that included SUSTAINABILITY 101 and video bites from global suppliers on the latest innovations, ingredients, formulations and solutions that help bring products to life. The NYSCC “90 Day Survival Guide for the Future Cosmetic Chemist” took place over three days and provided the building blocks for a solid career as a cosmetic chemist including “Talent Acquisition “Trends & Research Tools to Success,” and “Discovery & Compliance.” An Online, Searchable Exhibitor Directory produced by HAPPI was launched and enabled attendees to find the latest new products and information for beauty and personal care product development needs. “Live Chat” hours with exhibitors were featured over the show days : Sept. 30th and Oct. 1st . During the full « Week of Beauty » industry Associations and Partners also offered original content and programs including the SCC’s CEP two-part series course on Essential Cosmetic Raw Ingredients, FDA Cosmetics Regulations presented by IBA, and Anti- Aging Trends and Formulas and Sun Care Update from HAPPI magazine. NYSCC SUPPORTS EDUCATION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Focusing on the mission of EDUCATION in COSMETIC CHEMISTRY, programs that were in development were given a framework, thus allowing them to be rolled out and will be acted upon in 2021. These include: Social Media Internships: although in play for 2 years the NYSCC Board/related Committee has established criteria and more each recipient will receive a three (3) credit equivalent cost subsidy (applicable to undergraduate or graduate). The General Scholarship for the NYSCC: this is an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students who wish to pursue a role in the cosmetic sciences to apply for general funding. They must apply and follow the recommended disbursement deadlines and submit their application form online. The Roumelia Alina Inclusion & Diversity Scholarship: the genesis of this scholarship were the diversity/inclusivity campaigns launched this year…the goal was to take action. This value-based scholarship is awarded to those applicants who exemplify Hard Work, Perseverance, Compassion and Collaboration in the advancement of Inclusion & Diversity initiatives. Evidence of the applicant’s efforts must be articulated in a 500 word essay.
