To boost our educational program and communications to our members, the Scientific Advisory Committee (chaired by Giorgio Dell’Acqua PhD), continued to review ALL educational/technical programs presented in 2020 to ensure its integrity. Speaker Guidelines were created to assist in this process, thus elevating the programming that is available to members and constituents around the globe. In addition, the Scientific Advisory Committee with NYSCC Suppliers’ Day created and participated in in a virtual event targeted to the INDIE MARKET: Unfiltered Experience. This allowed us to reach this illusive sector while partnering with key suppliers in the industry who support the annual tradeshow, as well as programs year-round. In addition, to keep NYSCC and the unparalleled subject matter we provide, front and center, the NYSCC Scientific Advisory Committee provided content regularly: • 8 blogs were featured on our website • Blogs were republished: o Suppliers’ Day Newsletter: e-blast circulation 18,000 o Personal Care: global circ – 17,933 (with more than 75% outside of the US) All of the programs, content and virtual events were available through our newly, redesigned WEBSITE. The site became the HUB of activity. In addition to the site, Branding Guidelines were crafted to ensure our “face to the world” was consistent across the many committees, programs and communications produced. Finally, a cause for celebration kicked-off 2020: Suppliers’ Day was named one of the “FASTEST 50” growing shows in North America by Trade Show Executive (TSE) magazine. This honor recognized Suppliers’ Day’s extraordinary growth of exhibiting companies from 2018-19. SD also received recognition as the “NEXT 50” honor for its net square feet of exhibit space. Attendance was roughly 30 people. Special thanks to speaker George Deckner of Deckner Consulting Services who gave a talk about the most significant personal care innovations of the past and present. Included was commercialized products, ingredients, and platform technologies. June 10, 2020 7PM - Webinar that we opened to all of SCC members of all clubs The meeting was virtual and Sam Neely, from SCC headquarters, helped with the platform for this meeting. The Speaker was Joy Roederer, PhD - VP of R&D for Integrity Ingredients. She gave a talk on Clean Beauty Emulsion Technology. Approximately 308 people attended nationally to this virtual webinar. September 16, 2020 - Webinar for only OHVSCC members The meeting was held virtually. The speaker was Clint Smith, Director of Sustainability Packaging and he gave a talk on Sustainability & Trends in Packaging. Approximately 10 people attended this virtual webinar. December 2, 2020 - OHVSCC Virtual Happy Hour and Board Member Installation This was a social style event where we also had our virtual Board Member Installation for 2021 Board Members. Liz Streland attended and installed the new board for 2021. The following officers were installed: Kendra Kutcher (2021 Chair) Kelly Kanellis (2021 Chair Elect) Cassandra Patterson (Treasurer) and Lin Zhang (Secretary). 74th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase – the Society’s first ever VIRTUAL conference. 2020 proved to be the ultimate adversary to in-person events. However, our dedication to advance cosmetic science helped us to produce one of the most successful virtual events of the year. As the premier conference for cosmetic science education, we offered a full week of online content and the Society’s 74th Annual Scientific Meeting & Showcase became the highlight of 2020. This event was designed to provide attendees with top-notch scientific information, insightful discussions, dynamic and unique networking opportunities in an interactive and engaging digital experience. With these photos, you can see for yourself why over 400 attendees joined our online community of cosmetic & personal care professionals to ENGAGE, EXCHANGE AND RECONNECT... digitally! The SCC’s Annual Meeting is where the world connected for the best cosmetic science education!
