25 Ontario Although 2020 has been an incredibly challenging year for us all, the SCC Ontario Chapter has done our best to come together in new ways to share knowledge. Our year began, as most do, with our February evening meeting which was held at The Venetian Banquet Hall. Our speaker was Amy Marshall who presented on Color Trends. It was a lively talk filled with fun and creative inspiration for new product development.
26 As Canada had recently legalized the recreational use of cannabis, our Regulatory Day in March centered on its uses in topical products. There were 6 speakers in total, from both Canada and the USA, representing various aspects of the business from legal to regulatory, safety and governance. The event was well attended as this has been an exciting new and anticipated topic where regulations were not yet well understood by the market. This was our last in person event of the year. For our May evening meeting, we took the event online for the first time in the Ontario Chapter’s history. Our speaker was Dr Giuseppe Calloni who presented on A Retrospective and Update on the Emergence and Evolution of Hyaluronic Acid in Skin Care. Our Education Day in September was also held online with the support of the team at the SCC National Headquarters. Although the format was still quite new to many of us, the event was very well attended and enjoyed. The two session talk by Wen Schroeder was a review of the “Greening” of cosmetic products from the perspectives of the consumers, the market, and regulation and certification standards. Our last evening meeting of the year was also held online. Joe Dallal presented on “Plant Doctors for Cosmetics, from Snake Oil to 21st Century Technologies”. Joe was awarded our 2020 Speaker Award for this engaging and informative talk. Sadly, we were unable to celebrate the holidays together in person this year. The Chapter Board decided to get together with our members to help lift the spirits of the many people in need in our local community by hosting an online fund raiser for the North York Harvest Food Bank. Many thanks go out to the hard work of our energetic board members for all that was done to make 2020’s events happen. We are also thankful for our members who adapted to the new online formats to attend. The Ontario Chapter welcomes 2021 with hope and open minds.
