Society of Cosmetic Great Britain Chemists of ANNUAL REPORT OF COUNCIL FOR 1966-67 MEMBERSHIP The Membership of the Society at 31st March 1967, is shown below in comparison with the figures at the same time during the three preceding years: 1964 1965 1966 1967 Honorary Members 6 6 6 5 Members 351 359 378 377 Associates 49 48 48 39 TOTAL 406 413 432 421 During the year we have elected 24 new Members and 3 Associates: nevertheless we have a slight fall in total membership. The Council has been concerned to bring the Society's register up-to-date and this fall in membership is no doubt partly due to the resultant corrections in our register. It is with great regret that we have to report the death of Dr. Hibbott who had worked for many years for the Society and was elected an Hon- orary Member in 1963. We also have to report the death of one of our educational course students, Mr. P. Brace, who met with a fatal motor- scooter accident a few days before he was due to receive the Society's diploma. SCIENTIFIC MEETINGS The highlight of our 1966/67 lecture programme was the third Medal Lecture delivered by Professor Polano of Leiden University. His lecture "The interaction of detergents and skin" attracted a record attendance of 111. 59

Eleven papers were presented during the two days. The Mayor of Eastbourne, Alderman Mrs. Lee, was the Guest of Honour at the Symposium Dinner. SEMINAR The Society held its first residential seminar on "The Management of Laboratories in Consumer Supply Industries" at the Palace Hotel, Buxton, this year. The sixteen participants commenced work at 9 o'clock in the morning and finished their session at 10 o'clock at night. All were enthusi- astic and, to get the maximum benefit from the expert lecturers available, carried on their discussions until after midnight. Several of the lecturers have since remarked on the excellent quality of the participants which was better than is often found in those attending management seminars. Both the Society and the lecturers are to be congratulated on the success of this event.
