THE SECOND MEDAL AWARD THE AWARD OF A medal to an outstanding contributor to the art and science of cosmetics was an- nounced in the trade press and by special notice to members in June, 1948. The First Medalist was Colonel Marston Taylor Bogerr, Professor Emeritus of organic chemistry, Co- lumbia University. The award was made December 8, 1948, by Dr. Walter Taylor, President of the SOCIETY. A full account of the program appears in J. Soe. COS- METIC CHEMISTS, 1,266 (1949). The second medalist chosen by the Medal Award Committee was Dr. Ralph Liggett Evans, President Evans Chemetics, Inc., Evans Re- search and Development Corp., and Sales AftCiliates, Inc. Dr. Curt Wimmer, Chairman of the Medal Award Committee, briefly reviewed the conditions governing the award and introduced Dr. Milton Harris, toastmaster for the occasion. Dr. Harris soon proved his ability as a toastmaster, calling upon Dr. Foster Dee Snell to eulogize the Medalist. Dr. Snell quickly came to his subject ,eulogizing Ralph Liggett Evans, Medalist. CONDITIONS GOVERNING THE NOMINATIONS 1. A person irrespective of citizenship or residence is eligible for nomination as a Recipient. 2. Nominations must be in the hands of the Chairman not later than August 1, 1948. Nominations postmarked later than August 1 shall not be considered. 3. A nomination must be ac- companied by a list of the nominee's publications, if available a state- ment of his achievements the pro- ponent's reasons for the nomination a, nd an account of the proponents familiarity with the work. Addi- tional data may be requested by the Committee. 4. The nominee shall have been actively engaged in the art and science of cosmetics. A reward may be made for some outstanding piece of research or from achievements over a period of years. 5. The decision of the Commit- tee shall be final and uncontestable. It shall be entirely in the province of the Committee to decide whether or not an Award shall be made for any particular year. 6. The presentation of the Award shall be made at the regular meeting of the SOCIETY in Decem- ber. The recipient, if present, shall give an address on the work for which the Award has been made. If not present he shall submit a paper on the subject to be read by someone designated by him. The address or paper shall be printed in the official JOURNAL of the SO- CIETY. Nominations must be submitted, not later than August 1, 1950 to the Chairman. 41
