Opdyke The 1974 Society of Cosmetic Chemists Literature Award was presented to Donald L. Opdyke Ph.D., President of the Research Institute for Fragrance Materials Inc., at the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting on December 2, 1975, held at the Americana Hotel in Ne•v York City. Formal presentation of the award was made to Dr. Opdyke by Mr. Stephen Hoch, 1975 Society of Cosmetic Chemists President, during luncheon cere- monies on December 2nd. The award consists of a scroll and an honorarium of $1,500. Dr. Opdyke earned his Ph.D. from Washington University School of Medi- cine in St. Louis, specializing in anatomy and histology, and served as an instructor in anatomy, histology, and neuroanatomy until 1952. In 1952, Dr. Opdyke joined the Procter & Gamble Company, where he supervised studies in toxicity. He came to Revlon in 1963, where he was Director of Pharmacological Research and supervisor of a variety of depart- ments prior to being named Director of Basic Research in 1967. His own research work has been widely published in the Journal o[ Investi- gative Dermatology, Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, the British Medical Journal, and the Anatomical Record. .• ' •.•:" ". .... •. - :. 110 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS Society of Cosmetic Chemists 1975 Merit Award Presentation The 1975 Society of Cosmetic Chemists Merit Award was presented to Paul Thau, Section Head, Toiletries Products Development, Warner-Lambert Co., Morris Plains, New Jersey, at the December 2nd luncheon during the Society's Annual Scientific Meeting in New York City. The award was given to Mr. Thau in recognition of his many years of outstanding service to the Society. Mr. Thau has been active in the SCC for many years, having served the New York Chapter as Treasurer (1969) and Chairman (1971). His Na- tional activities have included responsibilities as Cotmcilor (1972) and Direc- tor (1973). He is currently serving the Society as National Treasurer. Left to right: Stephen G.
