372 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS GESELLSCHAFT DEUTSCHER KOSMETIK-CHEMIKER F•FT¾ MEMBERS and guests met for the second scientific meeting March 19th at the Battelle Institute in Frankfort, and were greeted by Dr. Gomahr, supervisor of the biochemical section of the Institute. Dr. H. Eder spoke on "Toxicological Experiments on Animals," and the problems and methods in the experimental testing of industrial products. New compounds which are intended to be used in medicine, cosmetics and as additive, to food, have to be thoroughly tested. Only a thorough testing of their effects on animals will clarify with a high degree of accuracy their effects on humans. The experiments have to be conducted and adjusted to each individual problem and have to consider all possible compatibilities, effects on skin and mucous membranes, etc. A second talk by Dr. S. Grfiner considered the necessities and different methods for the indexing of extensive scientific data and information. NEW MEMBERS Admtrand, John D., 82 Indian Rd., Wayne, N.J.
