360 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS Symposium on Hair A Symposium on Hair, organised by the Society, took place at Brighton from the 14th to 16th April 1964, at the Hotel Metropole. It was attended by 155 participants, including visitors from Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Switzerland and U.S.A. A Civic Reception to participants and their ladies was given on the evening of 14th April at the Royal Pavilion, by His Worship the Mayor of Brighton, Councillor Stanley Deason, J.P. The Mayor addressed a few words of welcome to delegates on Wednesday morning, 15th April, before the Symposium was formally opened by the President of the Society, S. J. Bush, Esq., F.R.I.C., who also thanked the Mayor for his hospitality the previous evening. About 140 persons attended a Banquet held on the evening of Wednesday, 15th April. Cosmetic Industry Exhibition 1964 The First Cosmetic Industry Exhibition, sponsored by the Society and organised by Events Promotions Ltd., was held at the Winter Gardens of the Hotel Metropole, Brighton, Sussex, from 14th to 16th April 1964. The exhibition was opened by the Deputy Mayor of Brighton, Alderman Button. The following companies exhibited: Aerosol Research Co. (Gt. Britain) Ltd. The Chemical Manufacturing & Packaging Co. Ltd. Coldstream (Engineering) Ltd. Croda, Ltd. Cyclo Chemicals, Ltd. Kingsley & Keith (Chemicals), Ltd. Lautier Fils, Ltd. J. H. Little & Co., Ltd. Lustroid, Ltd. Marchon Products, Ltd. Olin Mathieson Chemical Corporation Perfumery & Essential Oil Record Pergamon Press, Ltd. Searchlight Products (Melissa) Serta, Ltd. Silverson Machines, Ltd. Sipon Products, Ltd. S6flor, Ltd. Edward Webster, Ltd. Westbrook Lanolin Co. The theme of the Society's stand was Education, and an enlarged copy of the Diploma dominated the stand. By invitation of the Society, a stand was taken by the Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain (Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences).
