JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS 43 some topics, a subject is mentioned very briefly with a reference to the literature and without much of a clue as to what might be found. On occasion discrepan- cies between a general statement (binding increases with molecular size of polymers) and a specific result (more low molecular weight Polymer JR is sorbed than high) remain unexplained. While the book is almost entirely a summary of the literature viewpoints on the topics covered, the author properly expresses his own ideas on occasion. Even if debatable, these are sometimes thought provoking, e.g., that waving might usefully be thought of as concomi- tant setting and supercontraction. The cost of this volume, in these days of high prices for technical books, is modest and this may make it a good value for those who would find the bibliography useful and who like brows- ing in this subject.--HERMAN BOGATY, Consulting, Short Hills, NJ.
