SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS OF GREAT BRITAIN 239 ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING ['HE TWELFTIt Annual General Meeting was held at 55 Park Lane on Friday, 27th May 1960. The President, Dr. R. H. Marriott, was in the chair. The Hon. Treasurer's Report having been read and approved the Presi- dent of the Society, Dr. R. H. Marriott, delivered his Report of Council for the year. All facets of the Society's activities were touched upon. Member- ship had increased by 18 to 323. A successful Congress had been held at which 268 had paid the fee for participation. The President thanked firms which had contributed financially to the Congress. During the year a notable milestone had been the successful founding of the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists. Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden and U.S.A. participated. Mr. M. G. de Navarre had been elected President of the Federation. Temporarily, the work of the Federation is being carried out by a Committee consisting of the President, Dr. Masch and Dr. Marriott. More complete information would be available later. Continuing, Dr. Marriott reported that there had been good attendances at all six scientific meetings, average attendance being 51. The Journal had been produced as usual but the July 1959 issue was unavoidably late because of the printer's strike. He paid a generous tribute to the work of the Hon. Editor, Mr. A. Herzka. In the current year nine Journals would be issued, five American, three British and one German. In his comprehensive Report, Dr. Marriott mentioned the reorganization of the Education Course, the possibility of a closer link with the Toilet Preparations Federation, the completion of the new Beauty Room at Halli- - . •.. •y ß _.. . •... :'%: .•-- ..... Dr. Marriott concluded by thanking Council Members, the Hon. Secretary, Mr. L. A. Smith, and the General Secretary, Mrs. E. Millman, for their great help to him and their services to the Society in the past year. The President then presented a scroll to Mr. M. G. de Navarre of the American Society as a commemoration of his having become an Honorary Member of the Society earlier in the year. Dr. Marriott paid tribute to the services given by Mr. de Navarre to both the British and American Societies• Mr. de Navarre made gracious acknowledgment. The following Officers were then returned unopposed: President: H. W. Hibbott, M.Sc., Ph.D., A.R.I.C. Hon. Sec.: L. S. Smith. Hon. Treas.: M.P. Bailey. The election of three persons as Members of Council from four candidates resulted in the following being returned: D. F. Artstead, B.Sc., A.R.I.C. R. Clark, A.R.I.C. R. F. L. Thomas, B.Sc., A.R.C.S. The Council for the next year will consist of the above, together with K. G. Johnson, B.Sc., Ph.D., A.R.I.C., A. W. Middleton, B.Sc., Ph.D., F.R.I.C., Miss L. P. Torry, B.Sc., the Immediate Past President, R. H• Marriott, D.Sc., F.R.I.C., and the Hon. Editor, A. Herzka, B.Sc., A.R.I.C. On a ruling of Council at a meeting held just before the annual general meeting, the election for the office of Vice-President, for which there were two nominations, was declared to be null and void. This office must, there- fore, remain vacant until the Annual General Meeting of 1961. Dr. Marriott thanked the retiring Hon. Treasurer, Mr. R. E. Spate, for his services to the Society. The new President, Dr. H. W. Hibbott, then took the Chair. His first task was to present Dr. Marriott with a scroll commemorating the Honorary Membership of the Society which had been conferred upon him. Dr. Hibbott outlined Dr. Marriott's very considerable services to the Society, to which Dr. Marriott responded. The meeting ended with a pleasantly informal meal.
