Annual Meeting CULMINATING one of its most successful years of activity, the Society of Cosmetic Chemists held its Annual Meeting on 29th November, 1960, at the Hotel Biltmore in New York. The excellent program prepared by the Program Committee, under the Chairmanship of Mr. E. Allen Newcomb, attracted one of the largest gatherings in the Society's history, and included papers by Charles A. Sweeny of the Bureau of Investigation, Federal Trade Commission Dr. Leon Goldman, College of Medicine of the University of Cincinnati Dr. Frederick Reiss, Post-Graduate Medical School, New York University Dr. John Strauss, School of Medicine, Boston University Drs. Donald M. Skauen and Harold M. Beal, School of Pharmacy, University of Connecticut Dr. J. Y. Oldshue, Mixing Equipment Co. Inc. and John J. Fischer, Patterson-Kelley Co. At the Luncheon, following the morning session, Mr. H. J. Amsterdam, outgoing President of the Society, presented the President's Annual Report : . ß '5 .. Some of the accomplishments mentioned by Mr. Amsterdam included a marked increase in membership to a total of 813 participation in the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists as well as in meetings held abroad continued high technical calibre of the papers presented at the Society's meetings and in its Journal and others. Mr. Amsterdam expressed his thanks to the various committees who functioned during his year of office and introduced Dr. Sophie Plechner, President-elect for 1961, to the gathering. During the luncheon, the Society presented specially engraved gavels to all its Past Presidents as a token of the Society's appreciation for their service. Left to right: Mr. W. During the evening, following the Medal Award, Dr. Sophie Plechner was installed as President for 1961, and Mr. Warren Dennis was introduced as President-elect for the year 1962. Robert A. Kramer and Lester Conrad were chosen to serve again as Secretary and Treasurer, respectively, and elected directors included Walter Edman, John Longfellow, William Mueller and Martin Rieger. Serving as Chairman of the Society's Executive Com- mittee for 1961 will be Mr. H. J. Amsterdam, the retiring President.
