BOOK REVIEWS 57 a modest understanding of physiology, is composed largely of a critical review of experi- mental studies (especially those of the author and his co-workers, which account for over 80 of the references cited in the substantial bibliography included in the volume). Most pertinent to the interests ooe cosmetic science are probably Chapter II "Sampling, Numbering and Sizing Aerosol Particles", which deals mainly w, th various aspects of the use of the Walkenhorst thermal precipitator, and Chapter V "Deposition of Airborne Particles at Various Levels of the Respiratory Tract". Whilst this volume is un- doubtedly proving to be a work of considerable value in the pharmaceutical field, it will also provide helpful and authoritative background for research workers concerned with cosmetic aerosols.
