y. Soc. Cosmetic Chemists, 15• 707-708 (1964) I. F.F. AWARD 1963 THE I.F.F. AWARD for the best paper published in an American issue of the JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS during the calendar year of 1963 was awarded to Drs. Coffey, Finkelstein and Laden during the December meeting of the SOCIETY oF COSMETIC CHEMISTS. The selected paper, "The Effect of U.V. Light on Enzyme Systems Present in the Epidermis," demonstrates that U.V. light interferes with glucose metabolism due to inhibition of phosphorylating and transaminating enzyme systems. The paper appeared in the February 1963 issue of the JOURNAL on pages 55-61. The I.F.F. Award is made possible through the generosity of Inter- national Flavors and Fragrances, Inc., and is administered by the Editorial Committee of the JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS. It is hoped that this means of recognizing worthwhile papers will stimulate original and significant contributions to the Journal in future years. THE SIXTEENTH MEDAL AWARD The sixteenth medal award dinner of the Society of Cosmetic Chem- ists was held on December 2, 1964, at the Biltmore Hotel, New York City. The medal was presented by President Robert A. Kramer to Harold D. Goulden, Scientific Director of the Toilet Goods Association, in recognition of his outstanding services to the cosmetic industry and to cosmetic chem- ists. Mr. Goulden has been chiefly responsible for the universally recog- nized T.G.A. standards for cosmetic materials for assembling and pre- senting the scientific programs of T.G.A. for furthering the interests of cosmetic chemists vis-a-vis their employers for initiating and monitoring the color-testing program on behalf of the cosmetic industry and for numerous other invaluable services. Edward P. Morrish was toastmaster for the Medal Award ceremonies. Paul G. I. Lauffer was the eulogist. 707
