At the four Congress sessions, previously circulated papers presented by Czech, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese and British contributors were discussed, and there were also three free papers by U.S. and British authors. The free paper by Conrad and Mentecki is published in full, starting in page 362 of this issue of the Journal. All the papers, together with discussions, will be published in book form by Pergamon Press, Ltd. at the end of 1962. The four scientific sessions were ably chaired by Dr. G. Carri•re (Netherlands), Dr. H. Heinrich (U.S.A.), Dr. L.-W. Masch (Germany) and Mr. E. Thomsen (Denmark), supported by the respective rapporteurs, Mr. G. A. C. Pitt (lst and 4th session), Dr. H. W. Hibbott and Mr. J. B. Wilkinson. English and German were the floor languages and simultaneous interpretation in these two languages was provided. On the first day of the Congress, the majority of participants, and their guests, visited Blenheim Palace, Woodstock, nr. Oxford, home of the Duke of Marlborough, and the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. Members of the party not only toured the palace but were also able to make a trip by motor launch on the famous Blenheim Lake. Supper was served in the Riding School. There were also numerous other social outings for the benefit of the ladies which took place simultaneously with the scientific sessions. Partici- pants too were given opportunity of seeing some of the sights of London on Thursday afternoon and evening, culminating in a cruise down the Thames to Greenwich. On Friday, 6th July, a party of participants and guests visited Charlecote Park, and the Shakespearean sights in Stratford, followed by a visit to the evening performance of Macbeth. The social highlight of the Congress was the Banquet and Ball, held at the Connaught Rooms, on Wednesday, 3rd July, with Sir Harry Melville, K.C.B., F.R.S., Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, as Guest of Honour. Apart from Sir Harry and Lady Melville, the guests included Lord Nathan, Chairman of Council, Royal Society of Arts, and Lady Nathan Professor J. M. Robertson, C.B.E., F.R.S., President, Chemical Society, and Mrs. Robertson Mr. A.M. A. Moore, F.R.C.S., Master of the Worshipful Society of Apothecaries, and Mrs. Moore Miss M. A.
