58 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS As is the custom, your President has addressed both the Chicago and I New York Chapters on the annual President's night. It was a privilege ' to learn of the excellent progress that has been made by both of these I groups in increasing membership and pursuing the high quality of coopera-ß tion that exists in these Chapters. Chairman of the Chicago Chapter was i Dr. Sylvia Kramer and the New York Chapter was headed by William Lambert. The SOmET¾ is greatly indebted to Secretary Robert A. Kramer and Treasurer Dr. Walter A. Taylor, for their unfiagging interest in our behaloe It is impossible to detail the work that these gentlemen have done for the good of our group. I was highly pleased to learn that they will continue in these capacities for an additional year. Secretary Robert A. Kramer this past May represented our SOmF. at the 10th International Cosmetic Congress in Brussels, Belgium, and presented a paper entitled, "A Broad Outline of the Aims and Accomplish- ments of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists in the United States." He further visited France, Denmark, Switzerland and Germany and found a strong desire among our European cosmetic chemists to exchange knowl- ß edge of their technical developments. Mr. Kramer reported to our Board [ of Directors of this feeling. This past month our founder Maison G.. deNavarre, acting as our representative, met with the English, French,, Italian and Danish groups. He has proposed a reciprocal arrangement to further the exchange of these scientific papers. I am quite confident that I in the ensuing years we will have a much greater international exchange of[ such information. We wish to thank these gentlemen for their work in• our behalf in setting these wheels in motion. This year our Publications Committee headed by Maison G. deNavarre,: with the excellent cooperation of his Committee consisting of Miss Ruth R.. Bien, Mrs. Veronica L. Conley, Miss MarJam C. Aarons and Dr. Emil G.. Klarmann, has prepared for the first time six issues of the JOURNAL, four l being published here in the United States, and two being supplied by the '. British groups. A definite pattern has now been established and one which will allow for membership to receive all papers read at our meetings and[ seminars shortly after they are presented. Also, through the Committee's efforts, we have this JOURNAL on a self-sustaining basis. Special commendation should go to the Program Chairman Ross C. Whitman, the Arrangements Chairman Walter Wynne, the Library Chair- man Warren Dennis, Jr., and the Publicity Chairman Savery F. Coneybear and his able assistant Miss Audrey Langdon for their excellent cooperation during the year. It has been a pleasure to work with them. Membership has reached a new high of 536 members Chairman Michael Stanton reports 80 new members were admitted this year which indicates very good representation throughout our industry.
