One cosmetic chemist may prefer to use the name "Carbo- wax 400," another may choose "PEG (Polyethyleneglycol) 400." They are synonymous. However, we have cross-referenced all in•edient names to cover the situation. Another variation in reporting is "citric acid" or "acid, citric." For consistency in ingredient input, we select the Vqarner-Lambert official name as described in the Quality Control De- parm•ent Manufacturers Specification list. To implement the system and drill the information into Termatrex cards, we begin with punched cards. Two card types are prepared in the keypunching operation--a title card and an ingredient card. The title card contains the formulation number, name, classification number, and project number (Fig. •). In order to maintain a readily available source of formulation names, a computer listing is prepared in formulation number order (Table III). The ingredient card contains the formulation number, ingredient name, Terxnatrex number, and Manufacturing Specification (MS) num- ber or mannfacturer. (I• the MS number is not available, the name of the manufacturer is entered as identification.) A peculiar problem often exists in data cards.
