506 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS .]APANESE COSMETIC CHEMISTS ASSOCIATION On June 9th at the Chemists' Club, New York City, the oflScers and directors of the Society met with two chemists representing the Japanese Cosmetic Chemists Association, Dr. Shinichi Sato and Dr. Yutaka Saito. Dr. Sato briefly addressed the meeting as follows: "I am very glad to have this opportunity of meeting with you today. It is my great honor and pleasure to inform you that when our Association had its general meeting last spring, we decided to join the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists. This was mainly due to your suggestion and kind advice. "At the meeting Mr. Tsunemasa Koyama, the president of the Associa- tion, asked me to be a representative of the Japanese Cosmetic Chemists Association to the United States and to tell you of our appreciation of and the decision we made. He also stated that he would like to attend the 1st Congress of Cosmetic Chemists sponsored by the International Federation of the Societies of Cosmetic Chemists. "Our Association was established in 1949 and has gradually expanded its membership year by year. At present we have more than 150 members. "Our main activity is to standardize the specifications for raw materials and finished products of cosmetics, tooth pastes, etc., under a joint com- mittee with the Japanese Government organizations. "We have other activities such as a study tour plan which is held periodi- cally to visit outstanding or leading factories and laboratories in order to increase our knowledge or "know-how," and at the same time to become better acquainted among fellow members. "A general meeting is held twice a year in the spring and the autumn. As the Japanese Cosmetic Che:mists Association will be a newcomer in the International Federation, I as a representative of our Association, would like to ask you to guide us as your younger brothers. "We are preparing a complete list of our members and other detailed information to be sent to you as soon as possible. "We have heard that your SOCIETY is planning a visit to Japan and the South Pacific area next year. If you will let us know the schedule for the visit to Japan, we would cordially welcome your group and arrange all necessary details and give our wholehearted assistance to you. "I deeply appreciate the wonderful welcome party you have given us and the opportunity to talk to you this afternoon. Again I thank you for spending your precious time on our visit. We are awaiting your trip to Japan next year."
