GIACOMONI, PhD 2019–2021 Journal of Cosmetic Science Editor-in-Chief Dear Readers, As a goodbye to all of you after three years as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Cosmetic Science, I would like to share some information and some feelings about the JOCS. Credit must be given to Mike Fevola who, six years ago, started a new strategy to boost the impact factor. I have tried to implement that strategy. The JOCS is particularly attentive to manuscripts related to the physical chemistry of formulations and the results of clinical testing. Manuscripts describing animal testing results are considered beyond the scope of the Journal, as are manuscripts drawing conclusions about possible clinical effects from experiments performed with cultured cells. We have received many manuscripts related to consumer behavior, marketing, religious guidelines about cosmetics, and the like: these topics have been considered to be beyond the scope of the Journal. On the other hand, manuscripts describing results of clinical experiments performed with ingredients whose efficacy was suggested by experiments with cultured cells are welcome, as are in vitro experiments performed to understand the action mechanisms of ingredients with proven clinical efficacy. The impact factor is increasing: 0.269 in 2015, 0.222 in 2016, 0.436 in 2017, 0.318 in 2018, 0.530 in 2019, and 0.948 in 2020. We will have to wait until next year to see whether this trend continues. The new Editor-in-Chief, Trefor Evans, is a brilliant scientist and a rigorous reviewer. I am confident he will serve the JOCS to the best of his ability. Last but not least, we were lucky to have a panel of dedicated, expert reviewers who provided constructive comments to improve manuscripts, which made the authors quite happy. I wish you all a successful new year! J. Cosmet. Sci., 73, 1 (January/February 2022)
