Annual Report of the President WILLIAM H. MUELLER November 30, 1966 Today's meeting marks the end of the Society's activities for the year 1966. In keeping with tradition, I will report on the major issues of the year. Just a year ago at this same time, I outlined to you some of the goals we would try and achieve during 196•. As you may remember, we chose 19• as the year in which we would try to assist the JOURNAL. Up until a year ago there was a constant shortage of papers for that publication. I am happy to announce that for the first time there is an abundance of good papers that will make our JOUaNAL better than ever in the coming months. This change was brought about by accepting only original papers for presentation at the seminar and regular meetings. Also, your program chairmen have planned programs with more papers of shorter duration. This has apparently proved to be a successful combination, since it not only provided more papers for publication but increased attendance at these meetings by 30% over previous years. Another experiment proposed last year was to determine whether or not we could successfully attract new members at a faster rate than previ- ously achieved. At that time we estimated that there are possibly 3000- 5000 qualified scientists working in the cosmetic industry. The mem- bership drive consisted of the following activities: 1. A mailing to all members including an application blank 2. A mailing to selected dermatologists with an invitation to join 3. Chapter membership drives 4. Distribution of membership kits at national and local meetings. 61
