THE AWARD Of a medal to an outstanding contributor to the art and science of cosmetics was announced in the trade press and by special notice to members in June, 1948. The first medalist was Colonel Marston Taylor Bogeft, Professor Emeri- tus of organic chemistry, Columbia University. The award was made Dec. 8, 1948. A full account of the program appears in J. Soe. The fourth medalist was Maison G. deNavarre, Vice-President in Charge of Manufacturing and Research, Cosmetic Laboratories, Inc. (Division of Beauty Counselors, Inc.). McDonough, Toastmaster for the evening, introduced Thomas Farrell, Chairman of the Medal Award Committee, who briefly reviewed the conditions leading to the award. The Toastmaster introduced Maison G. deNavarre who addressed the gathering on "Emil G. Klarmann, the Man." He was followed by Dr. Louis Schwartz who spoke on "Emil G. Klarmann, Man of Science." President Paul LaufFer in citing the Medalist said, "Dr. Emil G. Klar- 51
