As a rule, an erotic scene and a city view were projected simultaneously with one or the other dominant. The time of presentation ranged between 1/250 and 1/125 of a second. The presentation of pictures was conducted with and without simultaneous stimulation from presumably erogenous odors, for which perfumes available on the market were used. It was shown, with a high degree of significance, that the sex motives during odor presentation were more readily recognized even tunder adverse viewing conditions than the building scenes. Changes in the viewing time did not alter the influence of the odor on the results. A. Einleitung Vcrhaltenskundliche, neurophysiologische und psychologische Unter- suchungen lassen erkennen, daf• der Geruchswahrnehmung eine wesent- liche Steuerungsfunktion ffir das soziale Verhalten, insbesondere ftir das Sexualverhalten, zukommt. Dies wird dadurch unterstrichen, dal• das limbische System, ein entwicklungsgeschichtlich in enger Beziehung mit dem Riechhirn stehender Gehirnteil, einen erheblichen Einflul• auf das Sozial- und Sexualverhalten hat. Zahlreiche Tierversuchc zeigen, dat• das sexuelle Verhalten von einem gut funktionierenden Gemchsapparat und auch intakten, zentral-nervOsen Strukturen zur Verarbeitung von Gerfichen abhiingig ist. Schon ftir Insekten ist nachgewiesen, dal• Geruchsstoffe in extrem niedriger Konzentration fiber weite Strecken hin die Auffindung des Sexual- partners gewiihrleistet.
