CHICAGO--NEW YORK CHAPTER NEWS 215 studied electrical engineering and journalism. He is the author of a survey on aerosol hair sprays which was published in 1958. The Chapter's Ladies' Night was held on April 14th. The entertainment program featured William A. Cain, counselor of hypnosis. All meetings are held at Henrici's Restaurant in the Merchandise Mart on the second Tuesday of the month. NEW YORK CHAPTER NEWS DR. M. F. NELSON of the Radiotracer Laboratory at the Atlas Powder Company, addressed the March 4th meeting at the Hotel New Yorker on the subject of "A Review of the Uses of Radioisotopes in Detergents and Cosmetic Chemistry." Dr. Nelson predicted that the use of radioisotopes in industry will increase in the next decade. Besides its use in production control he demonstrated several instances where they have, and will be, an aid to product develop- ment and improvement in cosmetic and detergent research. He spoke on how radioisotopes have been used in skin studies, in oral cavity research, in human hair studies, in methods developed for detergent evaluation, in astringents and in the metabolic fate of formulation additives in order to facilitate clearance of the materials by the Food and Drug Administration. In summary the group was urged to stimulate interest in the use of radio- isotopes as a saving of manpower hours plus the fact that valuable re- search knowledge could be afforded as a result of its use. Dr. Nelson received his B.A. from Augustana College in 1944 and his Ph.D. in chemistry from Iowa State University in 1949. After seven years supervising the Colgate-Palmolive Company radioisotope laboratory at Rutgers University and one year at Esso Research and Engineering Company, in the development of techniques for radioisotope assay through instrumentation, he joined Atlas Powder Company as supervisor of their radiotracer laboratory. The April 1st meeting featured Ladies' Night at the Hotel New Yorker. Two comedians were featured for entertainment and cosmetic products contributed by the various companies of the industry were presented to each guest of honor. A new trend was started with the May 6th meeting with Geigy Chemical Company as hosts for the Chapter at their plant. Dinner and transporta- tion from New York and back was provided by the company. Meetings are held in the Terrace Room of the Hotel New York, West Thirty-fourth Street and Eighth Avenue.
