SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS OF GREAT BRITAIN .k President, Dr. R. H. Marriott, and Mrs. Marriott and Past-President, J. Picktha!l, and Mrs. Pickthall at the Annual Dinner Dance, February 6th. AN ACCOUNT of the beneficial use of cosmetics in hospitals was given by Miss Eleanor Macdonald of ]. & E. Atkinson on .January 23rd at the Royal Society of Arts. Miss Macdonald stated that she had noticed the improvement in poise and well-being in women arising from their use of cosinetics. From this came the thought that sick women also might benefit from their use which modern psychiatric views also support. With the cooperation of Dr. George Somerville, Medical Superintendent of Goodmayes Hospital, Essex, a room in the hospital was converted into a beauty salon. A prac- titioner from Atkinson's visited the hospital and gave treatments one day a week over a long period of time. This controlled experiment proved the value of the idea and soon other hospitals became interested in establishing a similar scheme. Nurses from these hospitals were given a beauty training course for two weeks and became well equipped to take up their new work. Five hundred treatments were carried out at Goodmayes Hospital in six 216

The future of international cooperation and the future of industry were indissolubly linked. In this life there were searchers after truth and searchers after wealth. He had in mind scientific fact compared with advertising claims. NEW MEMBERS Bogaty, Herman, 1027 Ridge Ave., Evanston, Ill.
