THE EI.EVENTH Annual General Meeting of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists of Great Britain was held on May 22nd at 55 Park I.ane, London. On this occasion two resolutions of importance were before the meeting. The first: "that as an International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists is in the course of being formed, the Council of this Society be empowered to take all steps necessary to become a member of the Inter- national Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists if the Council so decide." This motion was proposed by l)r. H. W. Hibbott and seconded by Mr. P. W. Pepper. The president, Dr. R. H. Marriott, in support de- clared that the Federation would operate at a high level nationally and inter- nationally in dealing with Governments and stressed that each Society would be autonomous. q'he question of Federation was not mentioned in the report of Council for the year as most of the arrangements had been made at the close of the Society's yea• (31 st March). The aims and objects of the proposed Federation as clarified at a meeting in Bonn were read. The second resolution was proposed by Mr. E. Polan and seconded by Mr. N. F. E. Blackmore. This was: "that the Society shall allocate a sum not exceeding seventy-five pounds fi•r the provision of a beauty centre in 370

'l'hc th(mght had occurred to Mi'. 1%lan af'•cr hcarhJ• Miss Eleanor Macdonald's lecture on '"J'hc Use of Cosmetics ill Hospital" and he understood fi'om her that a number of hospitals were interested in the scheme, the only di•culty being the initial cost. '['he meeting ended with the presentation of, silver salver to Mr. F. Riley by the president. Mr. Riley, Monorary Secretary to the Society from 1954 to 1959, had rendered outstanding service to the Society and Council wished him to receive a token of their esteem, respect and gratitude.
