AEROSOL FOAM DISPENSING 523 Perfect foam uniformity can be realized by formulating the product so the propellant is soluble therein only to the degree required to give the desired foam. Propellant added over this amount forms a reserve layer and assures the uniform foam. The presence of potassium sulfite in a synthetic surfactant solution actually increases the solubility of hydrocarbon propellant in that solu- tion so that propellant solubility in a synthetic detergent shave cream is no problem. 524 JOURNAL OF THE SOCIETV OF COSMETIC CItEMISTS 1968 Literature Award of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists Presented to Dr. RobertJ. Scheuplein The Society of Cosmetic Chemists has presented its 1968 Literature award to Dr. Robert J. Scheuplein, associate in biophysics in the Depart- ment of Dermatology, Harvard Medical School. The Society's Lit- erature Award, consisting of a scroll and an honorarium of $1,000.00 is given annually to the author of a publication or series of papers on basic research, published during the preceding three years, which is judged to be the most outstanding contribution to cosmetic science or technology. The scroll read as follows: "The Society of Cosmetic Chemists presents to Dr. Robert J. Scheup- lein the Literature Award for 1968 for his contribution to the study of epidermal permeability and in particular to the elucidation experi- mentally and theoretically of the mechanism of passage of chemicals through the skin. Such knowledge is of basic importance to cosmetic science." The President of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, Mr. Harry Isacoff (left), presents tt•e Society's 1968 Literature Award to Dr. Robert J. Scheuplein of the Harvard Medical School (center). At right is Dr. Irvin H. Blank, Harvard Medical School, who was Eulo- gist_for Dr. Scheuplein.
