PROPELLANTS IN AEROSOLS 537 A method for gas chromatographic analysis of proFellants in aerosols is described. The method utilizes a can-piercing device attached to a liquid sampler which allows injection of sample directly from the aerosol can into the gas ehromatograph. Chromatographie conditions, standard preparation, calibration, and calculation of results are also discussed. Special techniques for glass aerosols and a sample collection method for obtaining IR spectra on unknown ehromatographie effluents are also covered. The described method is convenient, nondestructive (i.e., other anal- yses and spray characteristics may be completed as long as the piereer is left on the can), and rapid (requiring not more than 15 minutes for most samples). It has an approximate precision of q- 2.0%. Reprodueibil- ity of sample injection is q- 0.3%. The method can be adapted to a wide variety of aerosol products by selection of appropriate columns and ehromatographie conditions. (Received October 4, 1968)
