Theimer, Director of Research, van Ameringen-Haebler, Union Beach, N.J., discussed "Instrumental Analysis and Its Role in the Creation of Perfume Materials." Dr. Theimer has been closely associated with the development of instrumental analytical techniques. In addition, he has authored several papers on Friedel- Crafts reactions, the synthesis of aromatic alcohols and various analytical procedures. He has been granted a number of patents as well. Dr. Theime• was educated at the University of Cincinnati (AßB. and M.A. degrees) and at New York University (Ph.D.). Since 1931 he has been in the employ of van Ameringen-Haebler. Besides the Society of Cosmetic Chemists, Dr. Theimer is quite active in the North Jersey Section of the American Chemical Society and is a national alternate councillor.

A HISTORIC MEETING took place in the rooms of the Chemical Society, Burlington House, London, on April lSth when representatives of eight countries met to discuss the formation of an International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists. This Federation would link together the various autonomous national societies into an international body, capable of acting in such fields as international standards, establishment of professional status of the cos- roetic scientist, publication of bulletins, abstracts and reviews on cosmetic science to name only a few. The countries represented on this occasion were: Belgium, l)enmark, ]trance, Germany, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden and the United States. Agreement was reached on a provisional constitution. The delegates are now returning to report to their national Societies and as soon as possible a second council meeting will be held to draw up a final constitution. A provisional secretariat has been established in London (2 Lovers Walk, London, N. 5) but the final headquarters have yet to be agreed upon. 369
