L. Thomp- son, Stephen L. Mayham, Dr. Eunice T. Miner and Maison G. deNavarre, all of whom have previously been made honorary members of your SOCIETY. May I, in closing, hope that the future will see an even greater participa- tion by men of science in the decisions affecting the safety, the composition and the truthfulness of representations concerning cosmetics. Your SOCIETY and the individual members in it have during the past decade done much to promote safety, honesty and fair dealing in this field. Shelley, Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pennsyl- vania, as the second recipient of the $1000 Award. Dr. Shelley was chosen froin a field of seventeen candidates for his research on apocrine and eccrine sweat glands. His studies provide a sound background for cosinetic scientists' research on the control of personal odor and contribute valuable data for the formulation of better deodorants. Dr. Walter B. Lauffer the Committee studied fifty-four papers froin the field of cosmetic technology. Committee members include Gabriel Barnett, Irvin H. Blank, Joseph Dusenbury, Joseph Kalish, David Pressman and Irwin B. Wilson.
