The SOCIETY proved the first opportunity for scientists in the field to meet and exchange ideas and problems. After ten years the SOCIETY is known to scientists the world over with local chapters in Chicago and New York and the Society of Cosmetic Chemists of Great Britain is associated with the national group here. In a surprise ceremony, honorary membership in the SOCIETY was con- ferred upon Maison G. deNavarre, well-known consultant and researcher. His writings on cosmetics have been widely published also being publisher and editor of THE JOURNAL or THE SOCIETY OF COSMETIC CHEMISTS and technical editor of The American Perruiner and Essential Oil Review, writing the monthly column "Desiderata." In awarding the scroll to Mr. deNa- varre, the seventh recipient for honorary membership, Dr. Kenneth L. Russell cited Mr. deNavarre for his devotion to the cosmetic industry over the years and paid him special tribute as a founder of the SOCIETY. EIGHTH MEDAL AWARD Dr. Ernest Guenther received the Medal Award for 1955 at the Decem- ber 15th meeting. He was eulogized by Dr. Emil G. Klarmann and Dr. Edward E. Langenau. The entire proceedings including Dr. Guenther's acceptance address will be published in the May edition of the JOURNAL. CHICAGO SECTION NEWS THE CHICAGO SECTION has planned to hold eight meetings during the year with the first being held on January 10th. Eugene Rose, president of the Gene Rose Company, Inc., spoke on "Aerosols Are Here to Stay," and illustrated his presentation with films. Mr. Rose is one of the founders of the Chicago Section with fifteen years' experience in cosmetic research. While his fields of interest include antiperspirants, deodorants, face creams and shampoos, Mr. Rose is familiar with both the technical and the mer- chandising aspects of aerosol products. Dr. William R. Prindle, Assistant Technical Director of the Hazel- Atlas Glass Company, Wheeling, W. Va., discussed "Glass Containers: Recent Trends in Manufacturing and Research" on February 14th. This talk included an outline of methods used in manufacture of glass con- tainers, problems confronting this industry, current research and develop- ment work and illustrations by slides. Dr. Prindle received his Bachelor's and Master's degrees at the University of California. His Doctor's degree was awarded by Massachusetts Institute of Technology for research in glass technology and metallurgy.

On March 13th, Dr. Ernest Guenther of Fritzsche Brothers, Inc., spoke on "The Volatile Oils." This talk was supplemented by color motion pictures which he took during the past two years in Europe and North Africa. Dr. Guenther received the Eighth Medal Award at the December 1955 meeting of the Soclv. X¾ of Cosytoxic CI•.msxs in New York. All meetings are held at Henrici's Restaurant in the Merchandise Mart on the second Tuesday of each month. NEW YORK SECTION NEWS THE ORGANIZATION meeting of the officers and committee chairmen for 1956 was held on January 4th. Committee chairmen for this year are: Harry Isacoff, Program Paul G. I.
